The Philadelphia Flyers have been a huge surprise this season. They're without veteran Sean Couturier who suffered a fluke injury in training camp and will miss a good chunk of the season. Coots spoke with the media on October 9th where he said "I'm starting to feel good out there skating, the goal is for me to return at 100 percent. I won't give a time table on it, just taking it day by day and hoping each day is progress forward" The Flyers are currently a surprisingly 4-1-0 the only lose coming against Florida. The team currently sits in 2nd place 1 point behind Pittsburgh their heated rival. Joel Farabee was on fire tonight posting 1 goal, 2 assists for a 3 point night. The other goal scorers for the Fyers were Kevin Hayes and Zack MacEwen.

The Flyers have seen production from their youth, along with veterans Kevin Hayes who leads the team in points, and Travis Konecny who leads the team in goals. Their goalie Carter Hart has been red hot this season going 4-0-0 saving 130 out of 137 shots with a 1.75 GAA and .949 Save percentage. John Tortorella inherited a team that was struggling to find their identity. So far even without his captain and team leader he has gotten the mixed group of underdogs to overachieve so far in the early season.

It will be interesting if Torts can keep this team on track and continue to shock the league. Last year the New York Rangers were considered a rebuild team and made a deep playoff run taking out Pittsburgh and Carolina before Tampa Bay ended the Cinderella season. Like the Rangers, Philadelphia this year is being carried by their number 1 goalie. If the trend in sports continue we could see Philadelphia in the post season. So far Philadelphia has seen their MLB Phillies make a deep run and their MLS team the Union are heading to the Conference finals. The home of Rocky is alive and their teams are embracing their roles. Only the Union came into their season a favorite. The Phillies and Flyers started their seasons written off as rebuilds going nowhere.

The orange and the black hope to keep the Philadelphia domination in sports going. The Eagles are 6-0-0 this season in the NFL. It's definitely the year of Philadelphia. There is plenty of hockey still to go but the future is looking bright for a club that's struggled mightily.
